Yet another call for someone looking for Manish Badani - Ghatkopar

I just got a call at 4:00 pm on 14th September, 2015 from +918588823240; the lady claimed that she was calling from Axis Bank - Delhi branch regarding a loan that was taken by Manish Badani from Mumbai Branch. When I told her that I have not taken any loan, she mentioned that we will meet at B-5, Jain Society....I told her to go to Google and check for this website for more details.

I also checked Truecaller and find that this phone is registered in the name of "Future Money Delhi". The URL is
https://www.truecaller.com/in/8588823240

It specifically mentions that "36 people has reported this as spam." (this refers to the above mentioned number)

I have to wait and see if indeed the call was from Axis Bank; if I get another call from this or related number I will have to escalte this to Banking Ombudsperson and appropriate authorities.

Sudden spurt in activity to trace Manish Vinodrai Badani

There is suddenly a lot of activity for this blog. Most views are for "Collection Agents or Thugs" post; there was one view for HSBC regret email.
It is little more than a year since the call from HDFC Bank and some dubious calls in Nov-Dec of 2014.

It is amazing how every six months this activity by various banks picks up. I wonder how much efforts and resources they are wasting looking for Manish Vinodrai Badani.

As I have mentioned in the Blog, Mr. Mayur Badani, the brother of Manish Badani is very much in Ghatkopar. Manish may still have property(ies) in Ghatokopar and one can perhaps take legal route to trace him.

Instead the Bnaks and their THUGS continue to use underhanded means in trying to trace this guy.

I feel RBI needs to come up with stringent measures in ensuring that
1. Banks (private Banks) do not give multiple loans to some dubious character (it is a puzzle how did Manish Vinodrai managed to get so many loans/credits)
2. Do not resort to underhanded means in tracing such characters.

Traffic To This Blog

One modus operandi by the collection agents (actually thugs) seem to be to use Internet to collect information on "Manish Badani" and then make under-handed calls without verifying the authenticity of their find. I created this blog specifically to highlight their nuisance and the nexus between collection agents and the financial institutions (mostly private banks).

But at times I am puzzled with the traffic source and density. When I posted the article on RBI, there were lot of hits from outside India; perhaps some robotic scanner of blogs picked this up as FBI (?). Recently there were lot of hits from Ukraine. But in last 10 days, I see lot of traffic from within India. There is a sudden spurt in the viewing of this blog; specifically the article on "Mistaken identity..." and "Collection agents or thugs".

It is  almost 5 months since the last call from underhanded collection agents looking for Manish Vinodrai; looking at the history it is about time for another call….

CIBIL and Manish Vinodrai Badani

Since 2009 I have received several calls related to Manish Vinodrai Badani. At times I have wondered the source of my number; some seem to be using public databases such as LinkedIn but in one-off conversation collection agents have mentioned that my contact details are listed in CIBIL, presumably linked to Manish Vinodrai Badani.

I am not eactly sure on how CIBIL operates but based on my recent email exchange it appears that this information is provded by various Credit Institutions. From the various correspondence I have posted in this blog, it is very clear on the (lack of) due diligence process these institutions use in collecting the information and linking it to various individuals.

CIBIL claims that if there is any problem with my Credit report I can contest. But the issue is not about my docket; the issue is about MY PERSONAL INFORMATION linked to the docket of another individual; Manish Vinodrai Badani.

Why will (& if I can) I get CIBIL report for Manish Vinodrai Badani? Even if I do, how can I contest the information like contact details on some one else's docket? CIBIL needs to have proper process to ensure that at least personal details and contact information uploaded by it's member institues are accurate. If not other bystanders and innocent people like me will continue to suffer.

If I find out the institute(s) that is responsible for first linking my personal information to Manish Vinodrai Badani, I will go after them; legal option is time consuming but there are ways to expose their nonsense in various other forums. But if CIBIL provides a platform for such non-sensical institues then in my opinion it is equally legally responsible for my harassment.

Portal for Public Grievances

One site worth taking note is the portal for Public Grievances that is hosted by National Informatic Centre.

http://pgportal.gov.in/Grievance.aspx

Recently when SpiceJet was facing financial crisis, they stopped responding to emails and calls regarding planned flights. I reported to DGCA using this site and was pleasantly surprised that the message went to SpiceJet.

I have reported the harassmnet by Banks and their collection agents regarding Manish Vinodrai Badani to Department of Telecommunication; specifically I have reported telephone numbers that cannot be traced or called back.

I also reported the indifferent and arrogant attitude of Banks and agents to Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. I am also planning to highlight the Manish Vinodrai Badani episode to other departments such as Department of Justice and Department of Legal Affairs.

There is a definite need in reforming the Debt Management Departments of the banks and financial institutes and I am hoping that by persistently broadcasting my message, I will get through the thick-skinned attitude of the collection agents and their bosses in the private banks and financial institutes (like LICHFL).

Regret email from HSBC Bank

The first call regarding Manish Vinodrai Badani came from Dilip Pinot representing HSBC Bank. Despite my sharing with him the personal details that were different from that of Manish Vinodrai Badani the calls continued. After escalating this matter with their HO the following email was received.

After effect of call from HDFC Bank on May 12, 2014

The following email exchange happened after a call from HDFC Bank, Kanjurmarg branch looking for Manish Vinodrai Badani. I personally found the behavior of their Debt Managers extremely arrogant exhibiting disdain towards customer service.

Collection Agents or Thugs

Since 2009 several calls that I received could not be traced back. In most cases the caller cannot be called back and these numbers also get deactivated after a while.

One thing that makes no sense is that these callers always use dubious means to get information. The callers either claim to be from courier service, TRAI, Anti-terrorist unit, advocates or legal department of a bank. In many cases they give fake identification or policy numbers that either relate to details of the defaulter and in many cases the calls are absurd. For eg. someone claiming to be from courier service initiates a call from Mumbai wanting to send a courier to Ghatkopar but not knowing the sender details! Why would a courier service take so much trouble to make a long distance call desperately trying to deliver the consignment!

I agree with the Bank representatives when they claim that these callers are not their employees but the fact is that these calls eventually lead to a call from these banks; so these collection agents are indeed linked to the banks and RBI needs to thoroughly investigate the nexus between Banks and dubious collection agents.

Personally based on my experience in 2014 in dealing with the HDFC Bank staff members like Ganesh Sakpal, Milind Palkar and Sunil Sharma after the call in May 2014 from Kanjurmarg branch, I feel that these debt department managers are both arrogant and indifferent towards the harassment that innocent people undergo because of their lack of due diligence in pursuing the defaulters.
